The Penshurst Volcano Centre is open Friday to Sunday from 10:00 to 4:00, plus public holiday Mondays and school holidays every day.

Mt Rouse is an extinct volcano rising above the small town of Penshurst. It stands as a distinct elevation about 100m higher than the surrounding plain. There are clear views of the mountain from all angles, and from nearby peaks Mt Napier and the Grampians.

There is a wealth of historical information on Penshurst and district available. The Mt Rouse and District Historical Society have a website with many useful photos and stories of the past.

Volcanic Notes
Western District Volcanic Province, Victoria, Australia.
The CD-ROM (from which these files are derived) contains a variety of handouts and other material describing volcanic features in the Western District of Victoria, Australia. These are mainly in PDF format. A detailed list of contents appears later on this page.
The Handouts are intended for the "intelligent layman", and permission is given for Tourist Information Centres and Schools etc. to print copies of these for free distribution to their customers or students.
The Slide Show comprises a PDF fie of "speaker notes" of a training session given to the volunteers at the Penshurst Volcanic Discovery Centre in April 2008. Permission is given for these images to be used by teachers in lessons at their school. Note that some of these images are not my own, and contain copyright notes referring to other authors.
